You can proceed if it is clear, though only if there are no pedestrians. If there are pedestrians on the crossing you must stop. If there is an island in the middle of the road you only have to stop if the pedestrian is on your side of the road.

What is an Island?
An island separates the centre of the road and divides it into two separate roads. An island can be indicated by road markings or a median strip or concrete.

What does a solid amber light mean?
You must stop, unless it is unsafe to do so.

Which side of a one way street should you drive down if you want to turn right?
You would drive down the left hand side of the street and as you approach the junction, signal right and move into the right hand side of the road. Alternatively if there are road markings follow the road markings.

You can use ‘The 2 second rule’ or stay back 1 metre for every kilometer per hour travelled. EG. if you are travelling at 80 klms per hour keep back approximately 80 metres from the vehicle infront.

You can enter a Yellow Box junction if you are turning right and you are waiting for a gap in the traffic but not obstructing traffic coming from any other direction.

If you appraoch a junction where the traffic light are ‘Out Of Order’ what should you do?
Approach the junction slowly, yield to vehicles already on the junction and drive through safely when it becomes clear.

Where could you go to check if you handbrake is working correctly?
A hill.

How could you check if your brake lights were working correctly if you are alone?
Reverse your car up close to a reflective surface and press the brake pedal.

Does a pedestrian have the right of way on a junction?
Yes.

When should you use your fog lights?
When your visibility is reduced to under 100 metres.

What is engine coolant for?
Engine coolant has two purposes. To help stop the water freezing in the cooling system in sub zero conditions. To help stop the water overheating in the cooling system when the engine is idling.

How do you know how much pressure to put in your tyres?
This information is in the manufacturers hand book or on a rating plate on the body of the vehicle.

When can you drive in a bus lane?
Only outside the hours of 7am to 7pm but check the information plate to confirm that these times apply.
