After The Driving Test

If you are successful in passing your driving test then Congratulations! Upon completion of the test, the driving tester will issue you with a certificate of competency. This certificate is valid for 2 years. and should be kept safe. If you do not plan to exchange it for your full driving licence immediately take great care of it. If you allow the certificate to expire then you will have to resit the driving test. If you loose the certificate then you will have to contact the RSA and have a new certificate issued.

If you wish to exchange your certificate of competency for the full driving licence you must go to your local motor tax office. Your local motor tax office can be found on our website. You will require two passport sized photographs with your signature on the back of both, a full driving licence application form completed and signed plus a fee of €25. This fee for the licence will last for 10 years before it must be renewed. If you have any special requirements or exemptions you may need a medical or eyesight report filled out aswell.

Your driving licence can expire and you may overlook this fact. 10 years is a long time and it is in your own interest to keep your driving licence renewed. If in the unfortunate event that your licence has expired for more than 10 years you will have to resit the driving test again. LDrivers.ie has a very use link below which is a licence reminder. Just click on the link and insert your licence expiry date. You will receive a reminder approximately 3 months before your driving licence expires.

If you are unsuccessful you will be handed back your driving test report form with your faults and you will also receive a Certificate indicating that you failed the driving test. You will have to reapply to sit the driving test again. The driving tester is not permitted to discuss the details of the driving test. So if you are unhappy with the testers decision you can appeal it under article 33 of the Road Traffic Act 1961, which, provides for an appeal to the District Court. The Court will then make the final decision. At best you may get a further driving test free of charge. Discuss the result of the driving test with your driving instructor and dont be too hasty in making any decisions. The driving test can be very stressful and emotions will be high. Wait until you have had a chance to relax and think through what happened on the test. If you wish to reapply for a further driving test, application forms are available at test centres or you can apply online with the link below. www.drivingtest.ie/applicantselfscheduling/applicants/ApplicationSignIn.aspx
