Driving Lesson. Observation
Observation is very commonly understood to be the checking of the mirrors. This is not the case. Observation is the look you take in blind areas the mirrors are unable to show you.
For example it is not sufficent to just check your mirrors when moving off from a kerb. You must also glance quickly over the shoulder in the direction you are going, to be sure it is safe. If you drive through a cross junction because the traffic light is green and don’t glance left and right quickly, you may not see the whole picture. The mirrors are very limited and only by checking in to a blind area yourself can you be sure it is safe.
If you are the driver of the vehicle then you are responsible for it. Check for yourself and be sure its safe before you move. It does not even take a second to look.
