Bus Test D And D1
To Be eligible to sit the bus test C or C1 you must be over 21 years of age. The bus test or (category D) the truck test (category C) requires you to sit 2 separate exams. The bus theory test must be passed successfully and then the CPC test must passed before you can apply to sit the practical test. The only exemptions are for driving instructors who do not have to sit the CPC test.
The Category D Vehicle
The candidate sitting the driving test must supply their own vehicle and since the 1st January 2004 the vehicle for the category C must have accomodation for more than 16 people, be more than 10 metres long and at least 2.4 metres wide. The vehicle must be capable of at least 80klms and be fitted with ABS and a tacograph.
The category D1 vehicle - the vehicle supplied for the category D1 (minibus) since the 1st January 2004 must have passenger accomodation for more than 8 but less than 16 people, be at least 5 metres long have a gross vehicle weight of at least 4,00kgs, have abs and a tacograph fitted and be capable of a speed of at least 80klms per hour.
Both these Categories allow you to tow a trailer of not more than 750kgs gross vehicle weight.
